Two German companies are willing to invest in the construction of power plants in Serbia, and in particular hydro power plants, broadcaster B92 reported. According to the broadcaster, during the scheduled visit of German chancellor Angela Merkel to Serbia, Merkel will be accompanied by a business delegation including representatives of German companies keen on investing in Serbia’s power sector. Serbian power utility EPS and German energy company RWE have already inked a EUR 352mn agreement to set up a joint venture for the construction of five hydro power plants on the Velika Morava River. RWE has also been rumoured to be the most likely strategic partner for EPS, once the company enters a privatisation procedure.
