Serbia has the lowest level of energy efficiency in Europe, being at the very bottom of the list of countries that consume energy in a rational way. Buildings in Serbia are responsible for 60 percent of total energy consumption in Serbia. Most of the energy is used for heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting. More than 300,000 houses in Serbia do not have thermal isolation and they use 220 kW/h per square meter a year, compared to the European average of 70 kW/h.
