Belgrade hosts regional gathering on energy future

The regional conference ‘Energy-Development-Democracy: Shaping a New Energy Future for South-East Europe’ will begin in Belgrade Tuesday, and it will be opened by Serbian President Boris Tadic, the president’s press service released.

The opening of the conference will also be attended by Serbian Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic Dejanovic, who will address the participants on Wednesday, the second day of the gathering, her cabinet released in a statement.

The conference is held under the auspices of Serbian President Boris Tadic, and within Serbia’s chairmanship over the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP).

According to the statement, the conference is a part of the regional initiative Public Dialogue on Sustainable Use of Energy in South-East Europe, launched by a network of political schools of South-East Europe under the auspices of the Council of Europe, and with the support of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Visegrad Fund.

Local partners implementing the project include the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence, Academy for Political Development in cooperation with the State Attorney’s Office of Croatia, and the School of Democratic Leadership of Montenegro.
